A Burnt Chef Project Fundraiser

We’re on a mission to get the hospitality industry moving this year in an EPIC active challenge!

It's been 10 years since Anthony Bourdain's 'Parts Unknown' aired.

To many of us, Bourdain was the one to look up to. His unrelenting love and respect for food, culture and people whilst experiencing his own struggles changed the way many of us saw the service industry and highlighted the effect it could potentially have on us and our colleagues.

As we step into 2024, we're marking the 10 year anniversary of Parts Unknown as we challenge you to join us in your activity of choice -walk, run, cycle, hula hoop or anything else to cover the 35,218 miles he travelled.

Running for 15 minutes a day or walking for an hour reduces the risk of major depression by 26%

What is the challenge?

The Bourdain Challenge is a virtual active challenge based around the 35,228 miles covered between destinations in Season One of Parts Unknown.

From the Congo to Peru, from Quebec to Libya - we're tracing Bourdain's journey in this incredible fundraiser.

We're looking to raise funds to help us launch a series of mental health modules specifically designed to support hospitality students.

You can sign up individually or as a group and then head to our fundraising page to set up your sponsorship page. You can either get sponsored per mile completed or set yourself a target to contribute to the overall goal.

With four out of five hospitality professionals reporting ill mental health as a direct result of working in the industry, it's part of our ongoing mission to create a healthier place of work for everyone, this starts at grass roots level.

Does the challenge link to my fitness watch?

Of course! The challenge map links to most fitness trackers however, you don't need one to participate. You can manually log your miles via the virtual mission platform once you're signed up.

I'm not sure I can do 35k miles!?!

Phew! Us either! The idea is that we undertake the 35k target as a collective, each person or team will fundraise and complete the challenge by contributing to the overall goal.

How does the challenge raise funds?

The entry fees help cover the costs of the challenge but we also ask you to raise additional funds by setting up your own fundraising page, you can do this here.

We look forward to discovering Parts Unknown and getting active with you!
